After careful tabulation, the results are in for most of the month of June's rehearals. The following data excludes our last June rehearsal, June 29. There are a total of 6 rehearsals counted in the averages.

Here are the results:
  • Woodwinds - 7 counted members, 12 total absences (excused or unexcused) and lates. 200% chance of a woodwind member missing or being late to a rehearsal, a shared absence of .29 per member.
  • Brass - 9 counted members, 15 total absences (excused or unexcused) and lates. 250% chance of a brass member missing or being late to a rehearsal, a shared absence of .27 per member.
  • Battery - 5 counted members, 6 total absences (excused or unexcused) and lates. 100% chance of a battery member missing or being late to a rehearsal, a shared absence of .20 per member.
  • Front Ensemble - 4 counted members, 6 total absences (excused or unexcused) and lates. 67% chance of a battery member missing or being late to a rehearsal, a shared absence of .16 per member.
  • Colorguard - 9 counted members, 16 total absences (excused or unexcused) and lates. 267% chance of a colorguard member missing or being late to a rehearsal, a shared absence of .30 per member.
So, to sum it all up: a good job buddy award goes to the FRONT ENSEMBLE for having the best attendance through the month of June. Good job, buddy!

Wait, wait, wait - how were these scores tabulated? See below:
There are some exclusions. If a member of your section joined late (say, the June 22 rehearsal), then it would not be fair to count that person as a part of the section...they just joined, after all. So, if your numbers in your section are missing one or two, that's why. We will not need to account for that after numbers finalization on July 1.

First, total membership, with the above considerations, in each section is tabulated.
Secondly, all absences, excused or unexcused, and lates are tabulated. A member is counted late if they miss the sign in sheet or role call.
Thirdly, The absences/late composite number is divided against the amount of rehearsals being tabulated. In this case, 6. That gives us a percentage chance that someone in your section will be late or absent per rehearsal. Staggering, isn't it?
Finally, the shared absence number is the average lates/abesences divided by the amount of people in your section. This gives a shared absence - or in other words, how much percent of the section is missing per rehearsal - for your section. This number is ultimatley the judge on which section has the best attendance in the month.

Why so complicated? This process evens the playing field for all of the sections, regardless of total membership in the section. While a larger section is more apt to have absences, their shared absence would be normalized based on the averaged number. All in all, encourage your peers to attend rehearsal :).
